week 2 on the road

It has been quite a while since we left Acapulco with hopes and dreams to come back, our host Fiorella and their family were the greatest ever by letting us stay long enough to get some energy back and not only that but offered more than a place to camp as the offered an apartment for us to stay that we will never been able to repay back, Fiorella it is a really sweet girl that just won an scholarship to continue study what she loves and not only that as she is also thinking of ways to help her home town and state of Guerrero by making culture accessible and share a message with the rest of the world by working with collective groups of young entrepreneurs like some of us wish to do.

The first night we did not nothing but rest as we where really tired from the road trip and getting up hill as the Maxitunel towards Acapulco has not access to 2 wheels vehicles of any kind, it was so surreal to see how in one side the houses reminisce the favelas in Brazil in the form of a valley with houses all around us and no sight of the beach until we reach the top ready to decent where there is access to services such a supermarkets, internet, jobs and so much more

Something that has come as a surprise to me it has been able to see how we have managed to stay at beautiful places all along the way our trip from sleeping out on the side of the road where no where to find water not to look for resources of any kind where or money holds no value and then hitting the jackpot with new friends that become so much more than that in every way J

First night Gaby, Checo and I went to tour town as we loose the weight in our bikes, first stop zocalo, then la quebrada followed by riding around the malecon where we meet up with a local kid doing BMX tricks that keeps us company while we share our story with him, we had to make it back but we were hella thirsty so Checo came with the idea of hitting a local casino to get us some free sodas which we did getting all of ours money worth of soda, $ 50 pesos among all 3 and 3 lottery tickets for the next morning contest, no one won but we had fun

Next day we got the apartment number 2 thanks to Fiorella´s dad for letting us stay there and her mom even let us borrow some fans so the heat of the night was not as bad for the following days we stay, our view was the complete bay and it is safe to say it was aaaaawesome

I think it was this day went we cooked out using the grill, it was amazing enjoying the bay drinking caguamas with some steaks and pasta done by our host´s mom, the following day we continue our way to the beach where Fiorella took us for a swim next to a military base were we saw soldiers jumping in parachute while we ate sand sandwiches, yes I wrote sand as you get some while eating at the beach ;)

we ended up really tired after since we spend most of our day out followed by the supermarket and then the FIL

The morning after we said our goodbyes to town as we head out back to the road but we will not forget that maybe Fiorella will meet us next month

This is were I lost my big plate as the gears of my bike no longer worked and Checo helped me out to at least continue with 2 and climb the following hills to come next
That first day we made around 80kms as we were all rested but we stopped around 40 km out to rest on the side of the road, this time we took the free road since we have learned our lessons of not being on the tool road or cuota with no water for miles to come and no stores, after resting eating and covering from the sun,

we rode for around 38km more and stopped in a town between playa encantada and las vigas for the night where our host told us about how they bough their permission for transportation and then will become invalid once the tren ligero comes into the picture and their permission and investment will be lost

Next day we manage to do over 30 km until we stopped at las vigas due to extreme heat of the open road, while in the store we meet up with a couple of locals that ended up drinking with and share stories with us, also I manage to sell a silver necklace that I bought 15 years ago in las vegas for 70 usd but left it at 500 pesos to make enough money for my trip, so far I still have around 2200 pesos left but I am thankful for my friends that paid me some money and helped me during this trip, life works in mysterious ways and money will come when needed

that night as heading out Checo was a little drunk and had a problem with his bike so we had to stop before heading out were we staying at a local restaurant property while Eva played with the local kids

Next morning we rode about 30 km to get to playa Ventura were we stayed the night at this beautiful beach where we ate some amazing tacos sudados aaawesome

Following night we ended up at san Juan since we corrected our path from Ometepec to San Juan since we would have had to go up hill but we would not have been able to make it, we stayed at this patio where a couple of locals talked to us but before that an old man gave us sodas as well wanted to give money to Gaby but we will not take it as we would rather to keep the energy flowing and perhaps he could help some one else in the future, next morning we stopped at Cuajinalpa for ice cream and internet as  it was the last time we contacted our families since no signal from both phones no internet access, first person I called my Hermosa luna que amo tanto J

it was at that between that moment and the next town where we stopped and talked to Edgar a local farmer that gave us advice in how to ride safer as a group

the next time we stopped we decided to deviate from our route 30km to get to Punta Maldonado a local fisherman town from costa chica where we felt in love with the people and their stories, it is a hard place to get to with the wind in front of us and the sun up in the sky hitting our backs but once you passed by little towns and get to the friendly town we understood we made the right decision as I meet up with King and one of his friends that asked me to cover from the sun with them and share our story

This town and their people that happened to be so friendly makes me wonder what would it been of me if I decided to stay longer, it sense of family, friendship and warm knows no equal as everyone greet us and share with us asking about our trip and what to come next, King managed to talked to his cousin Elisandro and let us stay at his property next to the local Billiards where another one of our friends live and helped us with food and stories, damn I really miss this place where everyone is family and we were able to sleep without leaving 1 eye open, guys if you ever get to read this tambien los considero mis primos a todos

Aoife got sick and had to stay in for almost 2 days but we explore without her, she is way better now, she has been really strong and the trip it is perfect with all the people in it since we have become functional dysfunctional family in a way now

July the 8th the first night it rain after 10 months as we were here to witnessed how everyone prepared and talked about it along the way costa chica everyone asked us about rain and it is one of those thing we take for granted as I come from a city where it always rain and it might not be as needed our crucial for the people that live there, but here it is a different whether people will be able to do some farming and feed their families, once again I humble myself to realize how lucky we are traveling and getting to all the people along the way, the truck drivers that have stopped to helped, our hosts, the meals we share and people share with us, their warm and smiles in their face as for some we give hope knowing there is a different way to live and travel, some need just someone to care and listen to, it is within every interaction, big or small where we leave part of us and become more human, I got a gift from a young man that gave me hammer heard shark teeth to take with me, thanks for that and the open road it is not a sport it is a way to live life, it gives you a different perspective of what it is important and the stories I will be able to share one day with some one and my grandchildren next to the fire one day, if you wanna get to know the meaning of family and community while you wash every single fisherman helping each other without asking questions but with a smile on their faces while at it so you should go to Punta Maldonado and charge your batteries there while listening, sharing and nurturing from the good vibes of their residents, gracias gracias a todos
